BEHOLD!... IT IS BEAUTIFUL! AND IT IS GREEN!

Once upon a time a notorious member of the scientific priesthood who loved to climb like a vine searching for the sunlight to reach the stardom of fame was chosen and paid good money to go about selling the idea of the wonders of a newly invented gadget to anybody.

Anybody who was willing to stand his suffocating and boring rethoric.

He preferred crowds, of course. He always began his talks reciting like an elated ancient Greek poet:

  • My dear people... Behold!... It is beautiful! And it is green! Amazingly green! It shall solve all our energy problems for many centuries to come!... Our children shall rejoice with this most precious gift from the tree of science!...

Since people basically function on the gear of emotion, he easily was able to penetrate their limbic system fortress,  cracking and opening the nuts of forgotten times when they were carefree kids, bringing forth in their hearts a sense of belongingness and pretty soon they were nodding in agreement like unsuspecting iguanas whose lives would end soon boiled in the cooking pot.

And thus he went on and on wherever he was told to go, selling the uniqueness of this most dangerous gadget that has ever come out of man´s insanity.

This gadget was certainly ingenious. But it also contained a terrrible danger.

But by the time people had realised otherwise, they had been had and was too late to go back to a place where the unchained ghost would only had been a horrible nightmare (Video 1)

Video 1. Chernobyl defects.

The mad scientist had accomplished his task.

All the way back to his lab, as he drove his two tonne four wheeled farting machine, he kept a big smile on his face, for he could smell the sweet aroma of the upcoming prize for his excellent job of rounding up human cattle.

And as in our story, this is exactly where we are now with this business of nuclear power to power our insane and antibiospheric civilisation where advancement always brings up dangerous drawbacks, some of which become the legacy to future generations to cry about and suffer from (Video 2).

We are not questioning whether is good or not what we have gotten so far as we have digged deeper inside the bag of scientific discovery.

What we must question though is that we have taken a dangerous road and we have yet to learn to drive without hitting walls or falling into precipices.

And right now we have fallen into an abysm, the one that is slowly destroying the very same fabric that sustains life on Earth: The Biosphere (Video 3).

But as always, money talks and to comfort us, some experts come immediately forward using carefully picked wise words without wisdom to tell us not to worry about it.

This is why today it is quite fashionable to spit back and forth the famous word: "sustainable".

Everything is "sustainable" today. It sells.

Fuck!

No matter what, it is the same old game: Take what you want from Mother Nature, fuck her up but do not leave a trace of the mess. Hide it. Hide it in a maze of phantom firms.

So, "sustainable" is nothing but a sophisticated way to hide that which is unsustainable to begin with.

And back to square one.

In the beginning, when the atom was cracked, did they not tell us that "Mr. Atom" was "our friend"?

Here an example of "our friend, the Atom!" A cartoon from Disney´s studio in the 1950s (Video 4)?

But they also kept secret what they could do with the not-so-friendly atom.

Let us take a good look at one of these secret dark corners of the science bag and see how this "friendly atom" was used to endanger and annihilate life in Australia:

Sacrificial Lambs on the High Alter of Science

Australian servicemen and nomadic Aboriginals reveal the devastating effects of atomic weapons testing carried out in Australia by the British during the 1950s. For the first time, members of the Royal Australian Army, Air Force and Navy describe former top secret aspects of those tests. With the use of rare archival film and photographs, as well as eye witness accounts, Australian Atomic Confessions chronicles the hidden history and exposes previously hidden Government cover-ups. The consequences of nuclear testing imposed on the Australian people and land are not just skeletons of the past. Sydneys' new nuclear reactor continues to pose a threat to the environment and civilians, and the problem of removing and disposing of the old nuclear reactor remains an unanswered question. Prominent Aboriginal Elders also warn that an imminent catastrophe may occur in Central Australia as a result of two uranium mines. Australian Atomic Confessions is a chilling expose of nuclear testing and its damaging legacy, one that continues to this day.

Australian legislation is due this week that would declare a site in the Muckaty Land Trust for radioactive waste management. Many oppose this plan and call on Australians to help stop it: ?v=PKybLeLyyos
