The Xingu river in northern Brazil is under attack! Millions of animals and plants will be killed and thousands of people (24.000) will be displaced. This river is one of the main tributaries of the Amazon river.
Brazil is constructing a mega-dam that will flood thousands of hectares of beautiful rainforest. The project is called the Belo Monte Dam. It is expected to begin commercial generation in January 2015 with full capacity by January 2019.
Does Brazil need that much electricity? Some experts say that it does not. Behind these giant dam projects are always greedy politicians and corporations who profit from these crimes against Mother Nature.
