One of my favourite pastimes is reading old books and journals on literature, arts and sciences, for in them I usually find imperishable and infinite jewels, like the one I am posting here, what may be called the devil´s hook:
“Money secures friendships, commands respect, procures titles, softens justice; obtains even royal favours. Honours shower upon wealthy persons, whereas beggars – fortune´s wretched outcasts – receive nothing except cutting insults.”
