The history of man trying to reach the stars by boozing up his veins with fermented drinks is as old as his warmongering. Both probably have coevolved.
Ever since man discovered that by spitting into a mash of cereals or fruits contained in gourd or a clay pot and letting these rest in a dark place he could get drinks to get in touch with his gods, he has been busy making and drinking alcoholic beverages.
Untold stories have been told by the fire while drinking booze, before or after a war by those that came back hurt or maimed.
Of course, blasted warriors probably accompanied their parties with another faithful companion of Mr. Alcohol, which is another oldie on the block: Sex. Perhaps fore and after, you know what this means.
This pattern is still followed by Westerners to the last drop. In Western countries, you have the freedom to drink on and on until you fuck up your liver.
And as long as you do not mess with the law, you can abuse alcohol until you burst with cirrhosis.
On the other hand, people who live under the Islamic rule, they have the Law which prohibits alcoholic beverages. They cannot engage in games where alcohol is the king.
Islam religions state that the drinking of alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden “because of their effects include changes in the metabolism of the liver and the brain” (El-Naggar et al., 2013).
In the West, people who drink and drive are checked to see if they have not gone beyond the allowed limits, which is a good thing. It would be quite unfair if anyone´s life is fucked up by a fucking drunk driver.
So, people who drive may undergo a check up by the police, if they get caught before they killed themselves or kill other people, after they have drunk out of the fountain.
This story is quite different in countries where Islam religions are professed. They do the checking not to the people who get drunk but to the fountain to see whether or not it contains any alcohol.
On this particular point, a recent study carried out by El-Naggar et al. (2013) in the local markets of western Saudi Arabia shows what is done to make sure that malt beverages do not contain alcohol.
These scientists used very sophisticated methods such as capillary gas chromatography to test the malt drinks sold in the supermarkets for any alcohol content.
In an Islamic country, you had better comply with the Law unless you want to end up in jail.
If you travel from the West to Saudi Arabia or any Islamic country, this is something to keep in mind.
In Islamic nations, you cannot waste your life chasing alcoholic dreams and give free reign to your misdirected freedom to damage your liver with heavy alcohol consumption.
Their idea makes sense, from their perspective. By keeping people away from booze or from getting too carried away with the bottle of booze, it is a good way of saving a lot of headaches to families and society as a whole.
Alcohol is a double edged knife. It can be used to disinfect a wound but can also destroy people´s lives. It is important to remember that even though alcohol is legal, it is still a powerful and addictive drug.
It is no wonder that, according to the most recent WHO´s Report, the harmful use of alcohol is a worldwide problem resulting in millions of deaths, including hundreds of thousands of young lives lost.
