Even though the company´s experts say that everything is alright, some people do not buy that. The postcards do not show you the mess left behind by the mining company.
But the people that live there, damn well know what they are living in a hazardous zone. At least those concerned about their children and the environment and wildlife.
As more and more the nuclear industry´s propaganda machine goes around selling people the idea of nuclear energy as a solution for all our energy needs, that is green and will let us move beyond the oil age and that is safe, of course, until the nuclear power plant blows up like Fukushima or Chernobyl, it becomes very important for all of us to find out what the threat to human health poses this technology and be quite aware of the impact that the uranium mining needed to run such nuclear power plants has on the environment.
The following documentary (Video 1) examines the environmental impact that uranium mining has had in Elliot Lake, a small town in Ontario (Canada). It also explores the fear that the containment lakes holding the uranium tailings may one day break despite what the engineers have said. People question whether the levels of radioactivity in the tailings are safe for people and the environment as well.
