We could write a whole book on human psychology and what is behind this movie. But we will not. We suggest you read Wikipedia´s article for more information.
We can mention a couple of things, though.
First, Thomas R. "Tommy" Callahan III (Chris Farley) keeps a positive attitude against any the odds or waves that life throws at him.
Laughing before adversity is surely a sign of enlightenment which very few human beings have ever master. Tommy would not qualified for an enlightened person but he does laughs even when he gets fucked up. Which is fantastic and a good message given by this movie.
Secondly, it shows in a way the reality of what has been going through the industrial base of the U.S. Hundreds of companies have left the United States. They simply picked up their tent and moved it to other lands where there is an ocean of cheap labour.
The idea behind these multinationals boils down to making more money outside the United States and somehow sticking their profits in tax havens.
And those who ended without a job when the company closed its doors in their own town might as well go to hell and eat shit.
In today´s movie, the Callahan company was saved by Tommy and stayed in town. Everyone was happy in the end.
It would be nice if things that go round and round in Man´s economic wheel were that simple. They could be simple but man´s greediness gets in the way and in the end he fucks everything up.
So, we can close this and wrap it up by asking you:
Do you yourself know when enough is enough?
Anyway, here is Tommy Boy´s synopsis:
SYNOPSIS:
Tommy Callahan Jr. is a slow-witted,
clumsy guy who recently graduated college after attending for seven years. His
father, Big Tom Callahan, owns an auto parts factory in Ohio. When Tommy
arrives back home, he finds he has a position at the factory waiting for him.
His dad also introduces Tommy to the new brake pad division of the factory and
to Tommy's soon-to-be stepmother, Beverly, and her son Paul. But when Big Tom
dies, the factory threatens to go under unless the new brake pads are to be
sold. Therefore, Tommy must go on the road to sell them, along with the
assistance of Richard, Big Tom's right-hand man. Will Tommy save the company,
or will the factory, and the town, go under? (Written by David

SINOPSIS:
Tommy
empresa. (FILMAFFINITY)
