You can find them all over the world. They are long, imposing standing structures made out of marble, concrete or granite, usually placed in the main part of a city. They can be seen from a long distance.

What started out as a monkey business in territorial behaviour, i.e. a sentinel monkey sitting on a hill and whose prick - coloured or not - got erected when it saw another troop of monkeys approaching its territory to deter its enemies, later became a wooden, stone or marble phallic structure located at crossroads, in temples, on tombs, top of pillars or at specific spots in towns and even in churches in order to keep bad spirits or demons away, has evolved over time and has now become a full symbol of power, a big centrepiece around which the power of a city is clustered, even idolatry to honour the pagan god Baal.

In some places like Japan, people even have a festival, the Kanamara matsuri (penis festival).

These phallic structures are now given a fancy name: They are called "obelisks".
