PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA, SOUTH AFRICA: PLEASE SEND MORE MILITARY INTO NATIONAL PARKS TO PROTECT WILDLIFE FROM POACHERS

Source: Greenpals.

Dear Earthlings:

Rhinos are suffering a terrible holocaust right now. Poachers are exterminating these wonderful animals. We must do our best to save this species from extinction.

This is our chance to do something for our non-human brethren!

Let all of us work together to make Earth a better place for everyone, human and non-human alike.

Please read the following message and make sure you sign MS. Patty Weston´s Petition. Please do not put it off! Here is her message:

Rhinos have been walking the earth for well over a million years.  They are of no threat to other animals as their diet consist of plants, yet humans have become a threat to them.   If we go back to 2000, only 7 rhinos were poached, but every year since then, the staggering number of poached rhinos have increased to 668 in 2012.  Already this year, 227 have been murdered as of April 11, 2013.

They are being killed because the Chinese, Vietnamese and others believe the horn has medicinal properties, such as a cure for cancer, fever, sexual disorders and even hangovers.  It has been proven time and time again that this belief is only a myth.  It is not helpful for human consumption at all as the horn is nothing more than keratin, the same substance found in your hair and finger/toe nails.

It is feared that within 10 years the rhinos of SA will be extinct. South Africa relies heavily on tourism as their commerce and without their Big Five, their economy will suffer drastically.  The Big Five consist of rhinos, African elephants, Cape buffalo, lion and leopard.  The elephants are being killed and their head completely sawed off for the tusk which is carved into trickets and sold to the public in China.  The tiger is killed for basically every part of it's body and sold in China, Asia and Vietnam.  As already stated, the rhino is killed for the horn that is then ground up and sold illegally in the black market in Asia and primarily Vietnam and China.

There is no reasonable explanation for the murder of these animals of SA. As stewards of the planet, it is our responsibility to protect the wildlife so they can all be enjoyed for generations to come.  At this rate, future citizens of the world will only know of them from pictures made available on the internet or library books. There are many organizations and private individuals from all over the world who are doing their part in bringing awareness to the public, donations large and small contributed to help the orphans and to aid in this battle, Animal Planet aired a series in which dedicated soldiers from the US armed and ready for battle who go out searching for poachers, Englands royalty speaking out and is now preparing for a documentary, US dignitary Hillary Clinton requesting help from other world leaders, young Hollywood actors offering help, and funding from other countries including 16 million from the US.

With all this help and this barely touches the surface, one must wonder why the president of SA has not done more by deploying more soldiers to the national parks to protect and put an end to this horrific massacre of his homeland's rhinos.  In Kruger National Park alone, there have been 163 rhinos out of the 227 murdered this year thus far.  It is my opinion that the survival of these creatures lies in the hands of President Zuma.  He has the power to not only deploy more soldiers, but to declare a shoot-to-kill policy, enforce a no bail policy, to force the courts to bring these criminals to trial in a much speedier time frame, and to enforce tougher long term sentences.  He could also assist in the funding of security and equipment necessary for the privately owned reserves as the rhinos there have also been targeted.  Fence need to be replaced  that have been torn down.

Please help and become a "rhino warrior" in this horrific battle by signing this petition.  Spread the word through FB and everyone else you know.  Thousands if not millions of signatures are needed to get the attention of South Africa's president. This is a global concern and people from all over the world can stand united and be the voice for these helpless animals. We need to hold President Zuma accountable for allowing this to go on for as long as it has.  We need to let him know that the world is watching his actions and that he can do the right thing and turn this problem around for not only his people, but people everywhere.  The people who are  passionate about this cause should not have to suffer emotionally day after day when ever they see a picture of a dead rhino with it's horns hacked off, or the baby who is blungeoned because it moved closer to it's dying mother during the horn extraction. This is disturbing to the rangers who find these animals, to the men who perform autopsies, sometimes finding a dead baby who was near birth.  It's disturbing to the crews who must bury them.  It doesn't have to be this way.   Because of my adoration for the rhinos, I lovingly call the little ones "Sweet Lips" as they are so precious to me and  I will feel a huge void if there are no more rhinos.  I think everyone else will too.

Please President Zuma, in the name of  "Themba" who died at the greed of poachers, and his mate "Thandi" who survived, now without horns, please help put an end to this masacre. Stop the criminals who have no respect for life...and bring joy and pride back to your people and show the world how strong you are and that you will not tolerate strangers destroying your country any longer.  Otherwise, if you chose to ignore this issue by not giving it your all, the citizens of the world, especially SA, should be given an explanation as to why the precious wildlife of your country are not important enough for you to protect them from the ongoing senseless slaughter.
