As the helicopter travels to the deepest part of the remaining Bornean jungle, with a long rope and a special cargo hanging underneath, there is a brief moment when the camera poses on the vast fields outside below. What you see is thousands upon thousands of hectares of land planted with a monoculture.

Where once stood a luxurious tropical rain forest, now there are only endless rows of oil palm trees (Elaeis guineensis) (Fig. 1). This is the result of our voracious appetite for energy and cheap raw materials, in this case oil, to fuel vehicles and a squandering economy.

The forest was already inhabited by thousands of species with which we share this planet we call Earth. They were our nonhuman brethren, from a mushroom and a humble earthworm to big mammals such as orangutans.

No one asked these forest inhabitants whether they wanted their only home to be destroyed by bulldozers and chain saws.

People wielding strong economic interests moved in and tore up the forest to make way to the new crop, one that would bring benefits only to a small percentage of the 7 billion humans now crawling around the globe.

This sad story repeats itself over and over. This destruction is often done under the name of "sustainable development", a logo apparently invented to serve the interests of the few who control the destiny of our only home: Earth.

As for the cartload of baby orangutans you see above, they are the victims of this tragedy. These orphans is what is left out of the massacre of their home.

Their home sweet home was destroyed forever.

Now, thanks to the painstaking work of impressive people dedicated to saving as many orangutans as possible, there is a chance for these orphans to build a new life, to find a new home.

What you are about to watch (Video 1) is one of the most touching and moving documentaries you will ever experience.

The dices are in our hands. As far as we humans are concerned, nothing will change unless we change. So let us all work for a change which will benefit everyone else on everybody´s planet.
